Blacklock, Manchester – United Kingdom

Project description

Blacklock Manchester is the brand’s latest outpost, tucked beneath the bustling Peter Street within the grade II-listed Freetrade Exchange building. The new 115-seat restaurant sits within the lower ground floor space of Harvester House which dates back to the Victorian era and formerly home to a textile merchant.
Inspired by the buildings rich industrial history we worked with the team to lovingly restore the original finishes and features. Narrow timber strip flooring was revealed along with the timber ceiling floorboards and supporting beams. The original cast iron columns are exposed and painted in a deep gloss black. Original brick walls were lovingly restored to add a sense of familiarity whilst locally sourced reclaimed glazed bricks surround the kitchen pass and offer glimpses through to the energetic theatre of the kitchen. The main bar, like much of the joinery was carefully repurposed whilst layers of vintage lighting, blackboards and furnishings add nostalgia, original character and provide instant Blacklock charm.
