Brass Monkey champions the notion of ‘Growing Young Again.’
Our client envisioned a destination where adults could unleash their inner child – think games, great food, and drinks, all the while surrounded by friends.
The F&B and entertainment space was set to occupy 26,000sqft in U Venues. Located in New Cairo’s 5th Settlement, the mall aspired to be more than just a shopping place – but rather, a retail and lifestyle destination that delivers something fresh, dynamic,
and community-driven.
As a concept that sparks joy and invites people to make lasting memories, Brass Monkey would be the perfect addition. We were briefed that the design would take over two levels and must include a bowling alley, a dedicated bar area on each floor, restaurant, arcades, and billiards.
To unleash ones inner child, we set out to create a space rooted in nostalgia, reminiscent of days gone by. The concept, therefore, brings influences from the 1970s and 2000s together to create a unique entertainment experience. Thought-provoking artworks, rustic details, and of course, vintage style games were key elements of our concept.
An industrial aesthetic complemented by vibrant neon lights would create an energetic atmosphere, one that invites people to be themselves, come as they are, and partake in carefree enjoyment – just like the good ole days. This design fusion creates a dynamic, immersive nightlife environment where people can unwind and reconnect with childlike joy.
Featuring ten pin bowling alleys, visual sport simulators, basketball hoops, and classic games like Pac-Man, the dynamic two-level destination has it all.
To achieve the industrial aesthetic, we incorporated natural materials such as neo-cement and wood throughout the interior. Orange mesh, exposed brick, and corrugated iron also contribute to the venues character. The energy and excitement come through bold pops of color and electrifying lighting, with each element coming together to create an immersive atmosphere, surrounding guests in art, creativity, and an irresistible sense of play.
We faced challenges importing materials and finishes, but used them to our advantage, making the decision to manufacture most elements locally. This naturally came with its own set of hurdles, but the meticulous process ensured we expedited the project while honoring the design intent.
Ensuring visual consistency and coherency throughout the two levels was key to maintaining a high-energy vibe across the entire venue. By ensuring clear sight lines between the lower and upper levels, with the vast opening from the mezzanine level in particular being a key highlight, everyone becomes immersed in the buzz.
Other notable design elements include the large central bar highlighted by the zig-zag neon lights around the bulkhead and textured details such as the 3D bar facade made from concrete. Graffiti murals add yet another layer to the overarching narrative. Every corner and every perspective offers something new to marvel at, whether it’s the bowling pin lighting feature or the playful slogans, each touch point immerses guests further.
A distinctive balance of entertainment, atmosphere, and social connection, Brass Monkey Cairo has become a magnet for residents and visitors alike – cementing its place as one of the most exciting, talked-about additions to Cairo’s nightlife scene. It has been an immediate hit, taking visitors to a bygone era where they can discover a world of throwbacks.
