Upon entering the interior of the restaurant there is a direct contrast to the stark white Mondrian Hotel Lobby. The entry ceiling is clad with wood branches integrated with hanging foliage, insets along the windows feature metal trellises also intertwined with foliage reminiscent of Mexican villas. Floor lanterns and vintage vessels line the entry pathway inviting guests further into the restaurant space.
Executed by Monochrome Concept and led by Noble 33’s hospitality visionary Tosh Berman, the interior and exterior design features an elevated coastal vibe that blends Mexican influences with Wabi Sabi style, including rustic wood finishes paired with refined teak, handwoven bespoke furniture, organic textures and subtle neutral earthy hues in the textiles and hard surfaces.
Nestled in the open air pavilion of the Mondrian’s popular outdoor deck, is the restaurant’s outdoor dining space where guests are met with rare expansive views of the Los Angeles landscape through large windows framed by wood arches. Extensive rope-and-thatch pergolas combined with fire features and tropical landscapes create the warm and inviting outdoor dining and lounge space.
While we wanted to embrace the indoor – outdoor approach, we also wanted to create a space that is interesting and comfortable for guests to sit in all year round. A custom operable awning was designed to sit high above the patio to provide cover from sun and rain exposure. Just below the operable awning are various pergolas and thatched trellises featuring ropes, branches, and fabric that define the different areas of seating and transports you to the Mexican Riviera.
Bringing in warmth with wood ceiling elements (branches and slats) helped create a more intimate space to dine in.
