Efes Plus, Richmond, London – United Kingdom

Project description

Efes Plus, designed by Kapeti Interior Architecture, blends contemporary Mediterranean elegance with the enduring spirit of Anatolian heritage, inspired by the timeless legacy of Ephesus.
Situated in the historic heart of Richmond, one of London’s most characterful and quintessentially English neighbourhoods, Efes Richmond Plus stands as a refined reinterpretation of space and culture — transforming a once-beloved fish and chips restaurant into a modern Mediterranean and Turkish dining destination. Designed, planned, and executed entirely by Kapeti Interior Architecture, this ambitious project revitalises a piece of local heritage while introducing the warmth, texture, and spirit of Anatolia to Richmond’s timeless streetscape.
The design process spanned approximately three months, followed by a meticulous six-month fit-out led by Kapeti’s London-based team. Every element of the interior and technical design was crafted to harmonise modern Mediterranean aesthetics with the quintessential British sensibility that defines Richmond. Throughout the process, the challenge was not only to reinvent a beloved local landmark but also to embed it seamlessly into Richmond’s cultural and architectural narrative.
The space itself presented a unique architectural challenge — a narrow, 50-metre-long layout with an average ceiling height of just under 2.9 metres. Once resembling a fast-paced Hollywood-style diner, it has now been reimagined as a fluid, atmospheric interior defined by a series of sculptural arches. These arcs introduce rhythm and continuity to the long plan while subtly referencing the grand colonnades of ancient Ephesus, creating a sense of discovery as diners move through distinct yet connected zones.
To enhance natural light, two six-metre-long roof lanterns were installed on the ceiling, filling the interior with a warm, inviting glow. The spatial layout was carefully orchestrated: the dining area extends toward the street, three main seating zones unfold along the central axis, and the bar — positioned at the rear — anchors the journey with contrast and depth.
Below the main floor, a fully equipped kitchen and cold rooms were designed to serve up to 100 guests simultaneously — a testament to the project’s technical precision and efficiency. Achieving seamless ventilation, heating, and cooling within the tight geometry of the site was among the project’s greatest engineering challenges, as every system was integrated invisibly to preserve both comfort and aesthetic integrity.
True to Kapeti Interior Architecture’s philosophy, the design does more than beautify; it connects. Richmond’s English heritage blends effortlessly with the timeless spirit of Anatolia — where textures, craftsmanship, and emotional warmth come together in quiet harmony. Inspired by the same cultural lineage that shaped the ancient city of Ephesus (Efesos), the project reinterprets Mediterranean hospitality for the refined sensibilities of modern London.
Through materials, colours, and bespoke detailing, Efes Richmond Plus becomes a bridge between two worlds: a place where locals feel at home, and where every detail speaks the universal language of good design. The furniture and bespoke decorative elements were custom-made by Sonraki Interiors, designed and crafted between Istanbul and London to reflect both Turkish artistry and British precision.
The result is a dining environment that feels timeless, intimate, and deeply rooted in place — a contemporary ode to cultural continuity.
