Fiamma, MGM Shenzhen, Shenzen – China

Project description

The Alchemy of Light and Shadow, the Warm Narrative of Materiality

Fiamma, meaning “flame” in Italian and derived from the Latin “flamma,” ignites the soul of this Mediterranean-inspired restaurant.

“Human civilization began with the first flicker of fire.”
Heraclitus, the ancient Greek philosopher, saw fire as the very essence of all that becomes. At Fiamma, this primal spark is rekindled through spatial storytelling, igniting a sensory journey where culinary craft and design artistry converge.

Rooted in the romantic soul of Mediterranean culture and infused with contemporary industrial aesthetics, Fiamma unfolds its narrative as “A Fiery Journey,” crafting a dining environment charged with aesthetic tension. Through a masterful deconstruction of Mediterranean culture, CCD distills the fervent energy of flame into tactile textures, with every material serving as a quiet narrator of gastronomic artistry.

“Fire is the soul of the world; cooking, its first whisper.”
As twilight descends, Fiamma glows like amber embedded in the city’s fabric. With gentle, organic gestures, spatial textures softly unravel, transforming architecture into flowing poetry. Curved lines gently delineate the flooring, enhancing a sense of fluidity, while the undulating ceiling evokes the tender imprint of tides kissing the shore, inviting quiet immersion.

To amplify the ceiling’s sculptural presence, layered elevations disrupt the flatness, creating dynamic visual interest. Beneath, the open kitchen becomes a stage where metal and flame reimagine the poetry of cooking: copper vessels shimmer in firelight, red bricks form a cradle for ingredients, and cast-iron racks dangle a constellation of copper pots. The terracotta oven breathes forth the warm fragrance of grain—an olfactory immersion that enriches the sensory symphony.

Flames dance a tango across the grill, where the rhythmic crackle of sizzling ingredients echoes the pulse of the blues. Meanwhile, smoke softly curls upward along the brass-clad ceiling in misty spirals. The space becomes a symphony of flames and ingredients, where every texture tells a ceaseless interplay of fiery passion and poised composure. The open kitchen transforms into a flickering stage of culinary artistry, where olive oil-kissed vegetables and flame-seared steaks compose a sensory overture. Guests are immersed in the mastery of a Michelin-starred chef, indulging in a multi-sensory culinary performance that awakens all five senses.

The wheaty aroma of Italian pizza, the rich umami of Spanish paella, and the breezy freshness of Greek salad—a tapestry of Mediterranean flavors unfolds. The finest ingredients from the Mediterranean coast are crafted with artisanal finesse, each bite capturing sun-drenched flavors, lingering softly across the senses, like a tide that never truly recedes.

The spatial layout centers around the “maximum outer circumference,” from which functional zones radiate in fluid rhythm. At its core lies an interactive stage, where rotating tables intertwine with curated lighting and hushed murmurs, composing a vivid scene beneath the curved ceiling reminiscent of an amphitheater. Along the outer periphery, semi-veiled glass wine cabinets shimmer in a haze of amber moonlight; private dining enclaves nestle discreetly within the shifting geometry of circles and arcs—breathing a gentle rhythm of convivial gatherings.

In this culinary haven woven with curvilinear aesthetics, sculptural furnishings unfurl in graceful arcs, echoing the rhythm of ocean waves. Gentle lighting brushes across textured walls like fireflies’ glow, as if guests were wandering into a moonlit reef cave. Each dish emerges as a stanza in an evolving visual poem of light and shadow.

Here, Mediterranean sunlight is distilled into every dish, and the rhythm of the sea shapes the very cadence of the space. As sangria, fragrant with citrus, slips down the throat, Fiamma transcends mere dining. It becomes a sensory portal woven from flavor, guiding every soul in search of authentic culinary delight to the tender embrace of the azure coast.
