Gelataria Milano, Aveiro – Portugal

Project description

Inspired by the world of ice cream and childhood nostalgia, this ice cream shop takes an architectural approach that combines form, color, and sensory experience. The design creates a playful and immersive environment, where aesthetics go beyond decoration to establish a direct dialogue with visitors’ emotional memories.

The pastel color palette—mint green, pink, yellow, and cream—reinforces the space’s lightness and welcoming character, while the rounded and wavy forms on the walls evoke the fluidity of melting ice cream, crafting a cohesive visual narrative. Lighting plays a key role in shaping the atmosphere, balancing natural and artificial light to highlight different moments within the space.

The interior layout was carefully designed to ensure fluid and intuitive circulation, creating a balance between zones for socializing and movement. The service counter, clad in warm-toned tiles, subtly contrasts with the softness of the pastel hues, anchoring the space visually. Meanwhile, the main seating area is arranged flexibly, accommodating both small gatherings and more intimate moments.

More than just a commercial space, this ice cream shop serves as a place for gathering and contemplation, where architecture becomes an integral part of the experience. The interplay of materials, light, and form constructs an immersive atmosphere that transcends its conventional function, turning every visit into a moment of discovery.
The ice cream shop offers a playful and welcoming ambiance, inspired by visual elements connected to the world of ice cream and the nostalgia of childhood. The space’s design has been carefully crafted to convey lightness and fun, creating a unique sensory experience for visitors. The pastel color palette—mint green, pink, yellow, and cream—sets a soft and comforting atmosphere, evoking the freshness and sweetness of ice cream. The rounded and wavy wall forms mimic the fluidity of melting ice cream, reinforcing the thematic concept of the space.
