Hana Sushi, Katowice – Poland

Project description

Hana Sushi, a long-standing culinary spot in Katowice, returns with a refreshed concept. The interior design blends timeless elegance with a modern interpretation of Far Eastern aesthetics, intentionally avoiding literal references. A key goal was to emphasize the historic character of the former mine building that houses the restaurant.
The interior harmonizes with the original brick façade, maintaining a raw and earthy color palette that reflects the spirit of Asia. Dark wood, muted greens, grays and sand-colored plaster create a calm and balanced atmosphere. The space is enriched with brick-toned accents such as corten steel shelving, warm-toned fabrics and wooden flooring.
A symmetrical layout draws the eye from the beautifully decorated entrance area, featuring original rotating doors imported from Asia, toward the centrally located bar. Above the bar, metallic, wave-like fabrics add a dynamic focal point. Lighting and shadow play a key role in creating a refined and immersive atmosphere. Comfortable booths and chairs invite guests to relax and spend more time in the space.
The bar is the heart of the restaurant. Its front is covered with vertical wooden slats featuring delicate grooves that mimic the rhythm of bamboo stems. When multiplied, the pattern creates a flowing visual effect reminiscent of a bamboo forest.
Lighting was designed in collaboration with CHORS to subtly emphasize the unique character of the space. Custom fixtures reinterpret traditional Chinese lanterns by casting light both upward and downward, creating an elegant pattern on the ceiling. Wall sconces, inspired by modern torches with a warm orange glow, add both coziness and sophistication.
The new Hana Sushi offers a seamless combination of heritage and modernity. It creates a unique setting where the culinary experience is enriched by a thoughtful, elegant interior. This refreshed space invites guests to immerse themselves in an atmosphere that reflects both the depth of Asian culture and the industrial history of Katowice.
