Heartwood Bar captures the essence of the nearby redwood forest, offering an inspiring retreat in the heart of San Francisco’s financial district, just steps away from the iconic TransAmerica Building. Floriana Petersen – Floriana Interiors bar design reflects the rich history of the Barbary Coast and the beauty of California wilderness.
Adjacent to Redwood Forest City Park, the decor celebrates majestic redwood trees and vibrant poppies, showcased in a stunning mural on the back wall. Across the hall, a beautiful art piece graces a vibrant red wall, created by the talented collaboration of photographer and maker Steve Werney and muralist Leah Tumerman, under the vision of designer Floriana Petersen.
Incorporating elements from nearby Chinatown, Heartwood Bar features a pagoda in its design, honoring the cultural influence of the neighborhood. Historical fixtures honoring Buumer and Lazarus—two famous dogs from the 1850s in San Francisco—are artfully painted on the wall leading out of the kitchen, infusing the space with local history and charm.
Heartwood Bar beautifully blends nature, history, and cultural diversity into a unique and inviting atmosphere. Guests can savor nature-inspired cocktails amidst a warm, earthy setting, illuminated by light fixtures shaped like acorns overhead. The uneven floor was artistically epoxied, led by Steve Werney.
