Located in the heart of downtown Calgary, the reimagined National 10th breathes new life into a beloved local mainstay. This refreshed iteration of the National brand marks a departure from its original beer hall concept, reintroducing the venue as a multi-faceted destination. Designed to appeal to the bustling lunch crowd and evening revellers alike, the updated space merges familiar National elements with a modern, club-like atmosphere.
The inspiration for this project stemmed from the desire to evolve the National experience—blending casual dining with high-energy nightlife. The design team drew from warm, earthy tones and mid-century vibes to create distinct atmospheres within the venue. Key elements include a refreshed dining area featuring a palette of oak, terracotta, and olive green, offset by retro light fixtures and vibrant pops of color. A new private lounge area evokes the feel of a cozy living room with plush seating and moody lighting, making it ideal for intimate gatherings.
Several standout design choices reinforce this vision. Most notable are the two glowing arched portals that connect the dining area to the club and event space, creating a seamless transition between zones. Enhancements such as enlarged LED screens at the bar cater to sports fans while also supporting club visuals, and new karaoke rooms and expanded seating in the Bourbon Room round out the space’s entertainment offerings.
What once functioned primarily as a beer hall has now evolved into a diverse entertainment venue. From the upgraded lounge to the private dance floor and larger stage for DJs and live music, every detail tells a story of transformation. By embracing the vibrancy of downtown Calgary while paying homage to the brand’s roots, National 10th offers a dynamic, modern experience tailored to its urban audience.
